his brother Jean-Baptiste (1749-1826), and later with his nephew Pierre
(1794-1855). After having established centres of production in Paris and London,
he developed numerous important inventions and innovations, most notably the
double-action harp (1808-1811) and the double escapement for the piano (1822),
inventions that paved the way for the modern harp and piano. Countless great
composers owned Erard pianos, including Beethoven and Haydn.
