John Grant senior served his watchmaking apprenticeship with his uncle Alex Cumming. He is registered with the Worshipful Clockmakers’ Company from 1781 and was subsequently appointed Warden in 1810. He was an eminent maker of fine watches, clocks and regulators and there are many examples of his work in the Collection of the Worshipful Company and in the Guildhall Clock Museum.
From 1793 he was working at 75 Fleet Street, London and for some time traded as Cummings and Grant.
John Grant junior was born in 1796 and apprenticed to his father in 1809 who died in 1810. He is registered with the Worshipful Clockmakers’ Company from 1817 – 1867, he died in 1882.
